Alpine head unit and subwoofer detail

Alpine T6.1 sound system

Alpine's dedicated sound package for the T6.1 — head unit, upgraded speakers and a proper subwoofer. Better sound in a VW California is hard to find.

Terränger roof platform detail

Terränger roof platform

A roof platform engineered for the California's pop-up roof — it still raises with the platform mounted, even with snow on top, thanks to uprated dampers. The tailgate dampers are upgraded too (stronger German units), so the tailgate carries four camping chairs: the two originals plus two Front Runner chairs. Cargo up top, bed still works.

Front Runner rear ladder detail

Front Runner ladder

Fixed ladder on the tailgate. Getting to the platform takes seconds, not a stepladder from the garage.

Front Runner
Qubiq sidepocket detail

Qubiq sidepockets

Window-mounted storage pockets from Austrian maker Qubiq, fitted without drilling or gluing. From toys to filters to a week's worth of clothes — these swallow most of it.

Qubiq
Felleisen Roofer detail

Felleisen Roofer

An overhead cabinet strapped under the pop-up roof bed — the Roofer turns dead air into about 60 litres of extra storage — enough for life jackets and beach towels, or bedding.

CaliCap with windows rolled up

CaliCap

Insulating cap for the pop-up roof with windows and a roll-up function — sleep warm in winter, open it up in summer. Cut to accommodate a roof rack like ours.

After dark

Forest roads in a Nordic winter, dark autumn evenings — you see everything on and beside the road. One press switches off one or both auxiliary lights; everything follows the CANbus high-beam signal.

Swedish-made LED bar built for exactly these latitudes. Turns a black forest road into a lit one.

Lazer Triple-R 750 grille kit

Two Triple-R 750s integrated behind the grille with Lazer's T6.1 mounting kit — factory-clean by day, rally-stage by night.

The roof does three jobs

Most Californias make you choose: sleep upstairs, or carry things up there. This one does both.

  • The pop-up roof raises normally with the Terränger platform mounted — extra-strong dampers make it easy.
  • The CaliCap wraps the raised roof for insulation, with windows that roll up for light and air.
  • The Front Runner ladder makes the platform a place you actually use.
